How the grease iron works
"Even those of us in the grease bus use the IDT iron. It helps to improve the health and indoor climate of our greasers," explains Stein Olav Snesrud, lubrication manager for the Norwegian cross-country skiing team.
The combined national team and the biathlon team have also adopted the iron, which has now been made available for commercial and private use.
- IDT's grease iron contributes to a good indoor environment by removing the contamination where it occurs. Gases and dust created during hot ski lubrication are removed directly from the skis, and this means that we are much less exposed to harmful substances. Reports from STAMI (National Institute of Occupational Health) say that we have less dust and pollution in the air here in the lubrication trailer than in a normal office landscape, Snesrud points out.

There are several significant things that distinguish IDT's grease iron from traditional iron. In addition to contributing to better health, the grease iron from IDT also helps to give you better skis.

- The iron must be extremely heat stable and withstand high temperatures. This iron drops no more than one to two degrees on a ski. But electronics don't like heat, so that's why we moved all that away from the heat. And you can store the electronics box anywhere. You can put it in a drawer if you want," says Iversbakken.

Practical advice
For skiers who use fluorinated ski lubrications, the following is recommended:
- Stand outdoors or in a well-ventilated room (draught) when using fluorinated ski lubrication.
- Wear a protective mask/dust mask with protection class 2. A dust mask will not protect against gases, so it is important to have good ventilation even if you are wearing a dust mask.
- The temperature of the grease iron should not exceed the recommended values. Avoid skin contact with fluoride-containing products as far as possible. Do not rub out the powder with your finger or hand, and wash your hands well in case you have fluoride-containing ski lubrication on your skin.
